West Canada by Camper: Nature, Freedom, and Memories

Canada was completely new to us, but it left a lasting impression. As a family, we had previously traveled to the United States, but Canada was still uncharted territory for us. For our parents’ 30th wedding anniversary, the roles were reversed: this time, we took them on the trip. We rented a camper and explored West Canada together, taking in the stunning nature of British Columbia and Alberta. It reminded us of our past camping holidays, but the surroundings were completely different: from bright blue lakes to snow-covered mountain peaks. The feeling was familiar, only the scenery was new.

About Canada

Canada is a vast and diverse country, known for its rugged landscapes, wildlife, and welcoming atmosphere. From the snow-capped mountains in the west to the rugged coastlines in the east, every region has something unique to offer. Train journeys, such as the Rocky Mountaineer, are also a wonderful way to explore the country. With such contrasting regions, Canada offers something for every traveler: adventure, relaxation, culture, and nature.

FAQ about Canada

Canada isn’t a cheap destination, especially when it comes to accommodation and activities. However, with a camper, cooking your own meals, and careful planning, you can manage your costs well.
Many travellers can enter Canada with an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) instead of a full visa. The eTA is applied for online before your trip and is quick and easy to obtain. Requirements depend on your nationality, so always check the official rules before traveling.
The best time to travel through Western Canada is from May to October. Keep in mind that in the shoulder seasons (spring and autumn), some attractions and services may be closed. When we traveled in autumn, most tourist facilities were still open until Canadian Thanksgiving.
For renting a car or camper, your home country’s valid driving license is usually sufficient. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended in some cases, but it is often not mandatory.
