Daytrip Malmö
Malmö in one day: What to see and do
Arrival in Malmö and Gamla Staden
The train from Copenhagen to Malmö takes only 35 minutes and is easy to plan. Trains leave every 20 minutes from Copenhagen Central Station. The two cities are connected by the impressive Öresund Bridge, which offers beautiful views over the water. Make sure to arrive on time, as ID checks can happen at Copenhagen Airport Station for travellers heading to Sweden. Tickets can be bought at DSB points, 7-Eleven stores, or ticket machines at the station. The modern train is comfortable and fast – perfect for a relaxed day trip!
From the station, you can walk straight into Malmö’s old town: Gamla Staden. Here, you’ll find colourful buildings, quiet streets, and cosy squares. Our first stop was Stortorget, the large market square with the old town hall. Then we strolled to Lilla Torg, a smaller square full of cafés and terraces – a perfect spot for a coffee or lunch break.
Västra Hamnen and Modern Malmö
After exploring the old town, we headed to Västra Hamnen, a modern district built on an old industrial area. You’ll find charming canals, colourful houses, and nice walking routes along the water. The highlight? The Turning Torso, an impressive twisting residential tower that really stands out. It’s amazing to see up close.
Along the Coast and the Bridge to Denmark
We continued along the coast via Salongsgatan, a quiet street with water views. Then we reached Malmö’s old lighthouses and beach. Here you’ll also find Ribersborgs Kallbadhus, a traditional Scandinavian bathhouse where people swim in the sea all year round. From this spot, you get a great view of the Öresund Bridge, connecting Denmark and Sweden – a special place to end the day.
A great daytrip from Copenhagen
Malmö is a nice and relaxed city where you can easily see a lot in one day. The atmosphere is different from Copenhagen, but just as enjoyable. Since everything is fairly close together, you can explore the city on foot. We loved the mix of old and new, and the sea view made it extra special.
If you’re in Copenhagen or southern Sweden and want to experience something different, a daytrip to Malmö is definitely worth it!
