From wide beaches to rolling hills
Denmark, so much more than just Copenhagen
Denmark is a country full of fond memories for us. Tessa spent half a year in Copenhagen as an Erasmus student, so she knows the city very well. Together with Sander, she explored the charming nearby towns, and later they traveled further through Scandinavia. With our parents, they also discovered other parts of the country: from wide sandy beaches to rolling green hills. Denmark feels like a place where there’s always something beautiful to experience.
About Denmark
Denmark is known for its charming coastal towns, rolling landscapes, and cozy atmosphere. The country is made up of numerous islands, connected by bridges and ferries. You’ll find historic castles, colorful houses, and endless cycling routes. The Danes take pride in their design, hygge (coziness), and environmentally conscious lifestyle. Beyond the vibrant city of Copenhagen, places like Aarhus, Odense, and the Wadden Islands are also well worth a visit.

Yes, Copenhagen tends to be on the pricier side, but there are plenty of free or low-cost activities. Some museums offer free entry on certain days, and simply exploring the city on foot is an experience in itself.
What is the best way to get around Copenhagen?
Cycling is very easy in Copenhagen—especially for us Dutchies! The city is well set up for bikes, with great bike lanes, and distances are very manageable.
What traditional Danish food should you try?
Many dishes are labeled as “typically Danish,” though that can be subjective. Smørrebrød is definitely a must-try: open-faced sandwiches topped with a variety of ingredients. Just be prepared—you need to enjoy it!

Yes! Denmark is actually perfect for a roadtrip. The distances are manageable, and along the way you’ll pass charming coastal towns, scenic nature areas, and cozy villages.
When is the best time to visit Denmark?
Summer is the best period, offering the highest chance of good weather and long daylight hours. In spring and autumn, rain is more frequent, and in winter the days are short and dark.
