About Oman

A roadtrip is the best way to explore Oman. Rent a car and hit the road. Drive along empty highways past tropical wadis, rugged mountains, and vast deserts. Along the way, you’ll encounter donkeys, goats, and camels, and before you know it, you’ll find yourself at an ancient fort or an impressive palace.

FAQ about Oman

Yes, Oman is a very safe and peaceful country for travelers. It is also considered very women-friendly. That said, in our experience, locals can be a bit shy and not very talkative with tourists. As non-Muslims, we were sometimes seated in separate areas at restaurants, which is something to be aware of.
You can easily drive from the UAE to Oman with a rental or your own car. The most common border crossing is between Al Ain (UAE) and Al Buraimi (Oman). Make sure you have arranged a visa and have car insurance that is valid in Oman.

Many travelers can enter Oman without a visa for short stays (typically up to 14 days, depending on nationality). For longer visits, you will need to apply for a visa in advance through the official Omani eVisa website.

Yes, driving yourself is a great way to explore Oman. Roads are generally good and traffic is light. With a 4×4, you can also venture into the mountains and desert. Keep in mind that some mountain roads are steep and require driving experience.
Dress modestly, especially outside tourist areas. Cover your shoulders and knees, and women often wear a headscarf when visiting mosques. Note that mosque dress codes in Oman are stricter than in the UAE. On beaches and in wadis, swimwear is fine, but wearing a T-shirt and shorts is usually more appropriate as a woman.
